Dreams

First off, I thought you would like to see my card designs!  I only started with 3, and I am working on many more, as well as prints. I love that these 5 x 7 matte finish cards can also be framed.

My favorite part about designing these cards, is that they are truly MINE! They are the result of many morning walks through the garden….camera slung around my neck, taking in the sun or fog or rain….and they are truly from my heart!

I have never purposely set out to photograph for cards or prints. I just photograph what I love and then choose something that fits. A bit backwards, maybe, but that's how this brain of mine works.

A perfect example is this hobnail milk glass vase with a rose. My friend dropped a pair off for me, my first (ever) roses were blooming….so I took them on a field trip around the property.

The color was so vivid, it was quite hard to get a crisp image...

…so I tried many different backdrops...

…and came back in with a few photos that I truly love.

It wasn't until Nancy Wallace from @wallacegardens suggested a card series from them, that it even clicked! So sometimes what might seem a pre-planned event to you, is actually just a creative gardener at play!

Several of you have inquired about where they will be for sale. I am still working on that….here or Instagram or Etsy. Or maybe all three! And of course, local delivery too :)

So this girl is headed back to school….but believe me, I am full steam ahead chasing my dream!

The Inevitable

My Mother's Day roses are blooming.
This gardener who has planted and tended and coddled since I was single digits, has never had roses.

So my joy is a bit intense. The velvety layers of ruffles….

…the gentle curves….

…the hidden creases….detail only brought to to me by a camera's lens.

They are just starting to bloom now, as August's light changes…as shadows become long,
and nights become cool.

They are rebels in the gardening world. Rebelling against nature's
 time plan.
Bucking the seasonal bronco.

I think that's why I am so consumed by them...

…because I too am rebelling….fighting the changes that inevitably occur next week.

I cannot hold back the tear that slips across this freckled cheek.

Nor do I want to.

For it is this mama's way of protesting the inescapable.

How I have absorbed every moment of this summer. Every smile, every grumpy morning face, every request for a snack or drink or cuddle or ride. Every early morning walk with my husband, every big eyed pug green bean plea.

I will approach my 23rd year teaching with grace….

….but will take this bouquet with me.

Hope

Some people meditate to dig deep into their souls.
Others may pray or read or discuss.

I find that a walk through the garden
always allows me the ability to discover something new.

Something new about myself…or perhaps about my place in this world.

Today as I walked around after a morning rain, I found myself drawn to the blossoms.

Typically I look to the color and pizzazz of the brightest flowers, or to that of a fully formed fruit or vegetable.

But today I was pulled into the mystery of the blossoms.

And as I photographed them, I searched for their meaning.

It was here that I discovered HOPE.

Hope for the future.

Hope for a path that is clearly lit and easy to navigate.

Hope for my jumbled mind to figure out my true meaning on this Earth.

Hope for my children and their futures.

These blossoms signify what is to come...

….and many times that has something to do with what has come before….

These blossoms are time travelers ...

….an echo of sentiment….

….a piece of my heart.

Awakening.
