I have never really stressed about birthdays.
After all, age is merely a number, it's the interlude that counts....

...that precious time between the numbers....

....when a single yellow leaf brings a curiosity....

...when the drape of a branch intrigues us....

...when a tree burnished with fruit paints truth across our hearts...

....when the seasons give us gifts....

and we harness the offering and incorporate it into how we love and live....into how we act and react....

As I get closer to 50....

...I somehow see more than I saw last year. Or maybe
I am just looking at the world in a different context.

I hope that never changes.

  4. Happy Birthday! I'm closer to 60 than 50 and I don't feel any older. Well except for my knees... Every day that I wake up I think what will I learn today and while I haven't perfected it yet, I try to enjoy each day to its fullest. And from looking at your beautiful photography and your perfectly written prose I'm guessing that you're really closer to half that age of 50.

    1. I wish I was half that age....24 would make me very happy....although I didn't have a pleasant time in my early 20's! I love that you wake up each day eager to learn. That is fabulous and so inspiring!

  6. A very Happy Birthday to you! I am in my 60's and although I have slowed a little, I don't feel any different than when I was young. It is true you know, the older we get, the faster time goes by. I try to use every moment of the day...
Wishing you the very best of days.
    blessings,
    Penny

  7. It's fabulous to reach 50. I'm half-way past that mark already, approaching the big 60 in not too short of time and you know what? Acquiring wisdom is the best gift anyone could get. Yes, it gets better my friend, even with the bodily changes. ENJOY!!!!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Anita

  10. Age has never been important to me. I think I get that from my parents. When they were in their 70s, they had friends from the 20s to 90s in age. My students were so funny when they found out how old I was because I was usually older than their grandparents. They always said, "you don't look 60 (61,62,63, 64)" and my comment was, "this is what 60 (61,62,63,64) looks like. They said it was because I wore skinny jeans and Converse tennis shoes.

I never felt my age until I hit 62 and then it went down hill, but turning 65 next month makes me think about my age. I have friends far younger than me- like my parents from 20s to 90s in age - and I am far more active than most. Now that I am retired, there are many days that I do a triathlon of sports and still accomplish things around the house.

    Age is merely a number.

    Happy Birthday!

    1. Age is merely a number Carol, you are right. My husband and I are a lot like you in that we keep friends from young to old. Honestly, it keeps us on our toes!

  11. Hope you had a very good one! Yesterday, right? It all gets better and better the older we get, in my opinion!!! We learn so much with time and if we're attuned to it, can put it to very good use...

  12. Happy Birthday, sweet friend!
I hope you are stretching it out
and celebrating the whole week : )

When I got to my late 40's, the
world most definitely took on an
    added sweetness. I think because
    as we experience losses--from
death, from kids leaving the nest,
etc. we are more acutely aware of
the preciousness of each and every
moment, and the gift that is this life.

Here's to a wonderful year ahead,
    in between the numbers!

    xo Suzanne
