Field Of Dreams

In the summer of 2010 we took a 20 day trip across the United States. Kay at Georgia Girl with an English Heart recently brought our visit to the Field of Dreams to my mind. It was definitely a highlight of our trip. I love the fact that it is low key, non-commercial, and EXACTLY
as you remember it from the movie.

Here's what I wrote that night:

"It was a 3 hour ride to Dyersville...in 50 mile an hour winds. Then another 3 hours to Altoona, with no break in the wind. 353 miles of wind...We're still trying to pry K's fingers from the wheel. (Not to mention we were on tornado patrol as we were driving..just in case.) Endless fields of corn and soybeans, with an occasional cluster of oddly huge houses, a golf course, or a church.
We are now settled in to Altoona, Adventureland, where we will stay for 5 nights for the Outdoor Archery Nationals in Des Moines (Go N!)
Time to get to sleep, we're expecting C's CVS to pay us a visit tonight.
Good Night to All!"

If you get a chance, visit Kay's post on movies...and see how many you have seen!

  2. Oh, how you have made my day! Let's have some peanut butter cookies to celebrate! :-)
A 20 day trip across the USA! WOW, that must have been a blast. That wind sounds a bit scary, in Georgia we have our share of tornadoes and we know how serious they can be.
And that FIELD OF DREAMS! It does look just like the movie! Fantastic to see this. Thanks for posting this and thanks so much for mentioning me and even linking to me. That's so sweet of you. Are we smelling those peanut butter cookies yet? :-)
    Love,
    KAY

  3. Aw, what a wonderful post -- I'n with Kay, you really made my day with this one! Field of Dreams is, hands down with nothing else even close, my all-time favorite movie, and my hub's too. I'll bet we've watched it 20 times. If you've ever rented the DVD, too, there's a featurette about the making of the movie that is nearly as much fun as the film. The message of that movie is just so beautiful and true, and there's the awesome magic, and the score, and the cast -- the magnificent Burt Lancaster playing Doc with SUCH sweetness, Kevin Costner at his most gorgeous and sweet, James Earl Jones and Ray Liotta in roles that were just tailor-made for them, plus the always-underrated Amy Madigan as Annie. And that field! I'm so glad to hear that IRL in looks the way it should! We're gonna have to watch FOD again this holiday season - many thanks for the reminder!!! :-)
