Let the Sun Shine In

As every last snowflake falls,
I have been craving spring
just a little more.

I think about taking down
the wind-pounded
last grasp of the
winter holidays hanging
here and there...

I think about hanging
something
fresh and new
on the garage door and garden gate....

...something different...

....something that
carries the call of the
purple finch...

...something that makes me dream of
gardens and children's laughter and
swinging higher than the clouds...

...something that makes a visitor
smile as they
ring the bell
(although it doesn't work)

....something that evokes a hint
of the joys to come
as the seasons change

How do you decorate for spring?
Do you have a recurring tradition...or
do you create as the
warm spring breeze moves you?

I look forward to
blossoms and breezes...
to longer days....
to open windows ...
and to
warm sun upon my head.

  1. I look forward to the same things.
When it comes to decorations on my front porch...I usually think of a wreath. The purple finches think about my wreath too. They just hang out in the trees and watch for my latest decoration. It's like they think I am putting a wreath there for them. In less than 2 days...a nest is started in the wreath. I wonder if they are the same birds every year?

    1. Oh how funny...I hang a basket of flowers on our garage, and within days the wrens have a nest....last year in our window box....

  2. Lovely to think about spring.
    Our high today wasn't very
    high, but it was sunny!

I go with the flow and like
to bring in bits of nature as
    they start to appear....an
old bird nest from the previous
    year, branches beginning to
    bud, etc.

    Thanks for the momentary
    trip into springtime!

    1. A lovely image Suzanne, bringing bits of nature in...

It is raining here right now...an eerie sound hitting the windows after a VERY snowy winter....but perhaps this means we will hover near 40 for a while.....

  3. Hi ND! Your pictures and words are lovely! I'm not much of a decorator, but I love to open all the windows and let the light flood in. I'm more apt to be off walking with my camera looking for skies, and plants, and animals. I haven't gardened much because I taught in a year round school and always worked July and August and traveled in June and September. One of these days!

    1. FB, thanks so much! Walking with your camera sounds like fun! I totally understand you not gardening in the summer due to time constraints. If we didn't have summers off, I doubt we would garden on such a grand scale! Start small......

  5. So do I sweet friend, so do I.

As I look out the French doors from my great room onto my snow capped garden, I am imagining the boxwood hedges once again inviting rabbits to hide under, the robins building their nests and most of all, having guests sit in the patio and enjoying the silence of lazy summer days. Let's get ready!

    1. Ahhhh....nice to see I am not the only dreamer. I will be planting in the house soon....peppers early...tomatoes later....we can't really plant outside until right around Memorial Day.

School Vacation this week?? I will be going back in early March. I am anxious but sad at the same time.

My children absolutely adored their cards ;)

  8. Hi, I am stopping by from Coastal Cottage Dreams. Your inspiration photos are lovely. I hope to add something spring like to our front door soon and I am slowly starting to add more pops of turquoise and blues, even some springy greens to our mostly neutrals home.

    1. I wish I had some whole lavender left...I would attempt that! You will be months ahead of us in decorating your pretty porch! I usually can't think about any serious planting til right before Memorial Day, as we are usually still having frost. I will have to hang a few artificial things, as much as I dislike! We are anxious to hang the house number, but another storm is expected ....soon I hope...it is so perfect!

  11. I love all your photos! They are very inspiring for the spring . . . but I'd hold off changing the decorations . . . There's another storm on the way . . . Ugh!
