My Daughter Made it Through

Those of you who have been following my blog for a while know that my daughter "C" suffers from Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome (CVS). Well, she experienced an episode Friday night.

We always know it's coming, because she has vertigo immediately upon waking...then we know the episode will come that night. So Friday morning she woke up with her world spinning. Then she was fine for full-day kindergarten. She played all afternoon and had regular dinner. But we knew it would be coming in the night, so we set ourselves up with: a bowl, a hair elastic, a cup of water, a wet facecloth, and a box of tissues. We've been doing this long enough that we know exactly what we need. I sleep with her on these nights, allowing her to stay in the bed and fall back to sleep immediately.

The episodes come on in the night, usually after midnight. This episode started at 1:00am, then at 2:00, 2:30, 3:00 etc all the way until morning. It's vomiting, nausea, and horrible dizziness. Somehow morning breaks the cycle. "C" was back to her regular self Saturday, just a bit tired (as was Mom). She'll have sporadic bits of vertigo for a few days, and then this spell will be behind her.

On a positive note, "C" went 71 days between episodes! HOORAY! That is the longest she has ever gone. She will be 6 in November, and I have been logging in her episodes since she was 3 years 5 months. We are hoping and praying that this is a sign that "C" will outgrow this migraine related disorder by her teens.

CVS is a very perplexing disorder. Imagine that we are able to put her due date on the calendar, and within a few days, there it is. Other children are triggered by food or stress. Not "C". She's a calendar kid.

I still plan on setting up an auction to support research(see my side bar).

My daughter is so brave.

Autumn Gift Exchange

As the crisp air of fall forces me to think about putting away the flip flops, a sadness sinks in. I can't stand letting go of summer. I try to hold on to it until I don't have a choice..usually around the time of the 1st frost some time in early to mid-October. Once I do let go, it's full steam ahead, because I adore fall. Picking out pumpkins with our kids, decorating with mums and cabbages and kale...raking and raking and raking the leaves from our 2 huge maples...crisp air that lets you pull up the comforter at night or lets you throw on your favorite snuggly cardigan to take a walk...the smell of neighbor's fireplaces, picking out costumes...I love it all.

So...as much as I hate...ok...we don't say that in our house...dislike saying goodbye to summer...LET'S CELEBRATE AUTUMN!!!

Thanks for the Great Advice...Here I Go!!!

Thanks to all of my wonderful, helpful, and informative blogger friends for their wonderful advice on how to lose 10 pounds. I have already taken advice from several of you! I have started eating more often when my schedule permits, stopped drinking Carnation Breakfast in the morning, eat raw almonds as a little snack. I have also started adding more protein...a little peanut butter with breakfast...chicken in my lunch. Just by making these modifications, I lost 2 pounds this week! Yes!! So now I am at 131 pounds. I also ran out and bought Jillian Michael's 30-Day Shred DVD as recommended by another one of my fav bloggers Brunch at Saks. I will start that possibly today. It's supposed to yield great results. So I'm off and running.

Starting weight: 133 pounds
Current weight: 131 pounds
Time: 1 week
Goal: 123 pounds(approx....give or take a couple)
Time Goal: Thanksgiving

Once again, thanks so much. I could not have made the changes without your guidance and suggestions.

I will check in every Sunday with my results!!

Help Me Lose 10 Pounds...Please!

Happy Sunday Fellow Bloggers. I need to ask for your help. I need to lose 10 pounds. Now. Well, actually for the past 2 months. Summer gives me such a laid back feel that I tend to pack on an extra few. My clothes are a bit snug. I've always been lucky with my weight. Growing up I was the shortest (yep, first in line), and the tiniest. Really tiny. Then in high school I grew a foot in one year! Awkward to say the least. I remained thin until kids. I'm 5'7" and I was 121 (heaviest I'd ever been) at my wedding 13 years ago. I was actually back to that weight last summer, but this year I have crossed the 130 mark and I am horrified. I am very small-boned, and low to mid 120's is perfect for me. BUT I CAN'T GET BACK UNDER 130 pounds. So help! I want all of your advice. Every bit of it.

Some background:
5'7"
133 pounds
Age 43

Work full time.(teacher)

Two kids and a hubby at home.

Not a heck of a lot of free time (I dedicate that to laundry, dishes, the usual!)

Try to squeeze in an exercise tape here and there.

Carnation breakfast for breakfast.
Salad or a small sandwich for lunch.
Starving when I get home..usually grab the cheez-its.
Regular dinner.
Seldomly snack after dinner.

Ok ladies(and the occasional gent), HELP!!!

I PROMISE TO MAKE A PLAN USING ALL OF THE ADVICE I GET, TO LET YOU KNOW MY PLAN, AND TO KEEP YOU POSTED ON MY PROGRESS.

Sorry...I Don't Live on an Island

Hello Blogger friends. I think about this often...the fact that due to my blog title, everyone (or at least most everyone), thinks I reside on Nantucket. Nope. I just wanted to clarify that. I live in an adorable seaside town in southeastern Massachusetts. Yes, it is quaint. Yes, it has a lighthouse. Yes, I love it. But nope...not Nantucket. Someone even thanked me recently for travel information on the island. You're welcome. But it wasn't me.

I HAVE been to the island...ONCE. That one time caused me to develop a love for Nantucket which I hope is occasionally reflected in my blog. My DH and I visited the island 11 1/2 years ago. We had been trying to get pregnant for 2 years and we were very stressed out. So we took a little vacation so we could kick back and relax. Relax we did. And yes...I got pregnant on Nantucket. In fact, my son;s name is an acronym of that fact...without us really meaning it to be! Sorry if this is too much info, but I wanted to share!

So please keep reading my blog...even if I don't live on Nantucket!

What a Crop

As many of you know, this year we got a little crazy and made a humongous veggie garden...more like a small farm. It rained for a month straight...from mid-May to mid-June, definitely altering the typical planting/growing of gardens here in much of the Northeast. It has also rained quite a bit this summer. Our lawn is the greenest it has ever been at this time of year. We've also cut it a bazillion times. So needless to say, the most prolific crop we had this year was WEEDS!!!

Ok, so the weeds are a bit out of control, and the deer ate the heads off of our sunflowers;however, the rest of our garden has been doing surprisingly well. Tomatoes are scarce right now due to blight...but we've actually been very lucky.

So far, here are our totals...and still counting:

Summer Squash:21
Zucchini: 16
Cukes: 129
Peppers:32
Cherry Tomatoes: 537
Tomatoes: 89
Tomatilla:46
Eggplant: 15
